Glass more than half empty

Unemployed workers per job openings is clearly trending downward, which is good news. But at about 4 unemployed workers per opening, the labor market is still far more difficult than it was at the end of 2007, when the recession started. That’s bad news. The glass is more than half empty.

  1. Hmm, that claim is particularly telling given the evidence. The stat went from 1.5 at its lowest to almost 7 at the peak. The halfway point would be 4.25, which it is now below, meaning it’s closer to the positive than the negative. So is it half empty or do you want it to be half empty?
